Fulham: no bone break for Dembele

23 September 2010

That’s the good news, as tweeted earlier today by the club’s official Twitter handle, @FulhamFC.

Dembele: No fracture to the ankle. An MRI scan revealed some ligament damage, that will need to recover, prior to a return to training.

That said, the confirmation of some ligament damage makes the initial reported estimates at just two weeks out of action seem fairly optimistic. Sure, every case is different, but I’d bet this will be much closer to 4-6 weeks than it will be two. That just doesn’t seem like enough recovery time for what could be guessed as a fairly significant sprain or trauma to the ankle ligaments. As Jake mentioned earlier, City’s new defender Aleksandar Kolarov has been out since the first match of the season after reaggrevating a similar-sounding injury.

Either way, it’s heartening news for a Fulham squad that’s been really unlucky with injuries since the transfer window closed. The Cottagers are going to have to piecemeal an attack together for the next few matches until they can get Dembele, Andrew Johnson and/or Diomansy Kamara back on the pitch.
