Matchday 16: The 96-year wait for a win

04 December 2010

Arsenal is enjoying having its Arshavin. Fulham should have gotten a Brazilian.

No, I’m not talking about Fulham’s current form; it just seems like it’s been nearly a century since the Cottagers’ last victory. This is specifically about Fulham at Arsenal, where the whites have never won despite trying since 1914.

Yes, Arsenal has lost thrice at home already this season, including to two promoted sides, but banged-up Fulham likely doesn’t have the offensive threat to be able to truly threaten to add a fourth name to that list. Andy Johnson is expected back, but since he’s basically been rubbish since his return, that’s just a plus in name only. Maybe now that Mark Schwarzer’s near future is settled after he agreed to stay with the club through 2012, he can find his top form and keep Fulham around long enough to steal a point.

I can’t see it happening and the cloud of frustration around Motspur Park will thicken.

Prediction: Arsenal 3, Fulham 1
